Breaking to Score from Opponents Corner
Back to Experts Guide
It is important to know how you can turn an opponents
corner into your advantage. Several defenders often push forward
for corners and by breaking quickly and incisively you can catch
the opposition's defence off guard.
Although these screenshots show this move as it
is performed from a corner in the top left of the pitch, it
can of course be applied to all corners which can be taken,
although obviously you will have to mirror the moves for corners
from other areas.
METHOD 1 - Sexy Football
It should be noted that points one and two only
apply to corners which are played in to the penalty box. For
corners which are played to the edge of the box see points three
and four only.

The diving header should follow roughly the path showed
here by the arrow from the defender. This means that the
ball should roll nicely to the feet of your midfielder (boxed).
If the corner was played to the edge of the box, it's quite
possible that your midfielder could end up with the ball
in this position anyway. Occasionally however, your midfielder
may go to sleep, and if this happens, you need to be ready
to pick up the ball with your left winger (triangle).
|
Once your midfileder has the ball, it's time to break.
There should be noone between him and your striker, although
there could be an opposing midfielder around somewhere,
so hit a curling pass along the floor to your striker. Your
striker may have one player left to beat in midfield and
in this case you can either try to go past the player, or
you can simply lay it off to your other striker. At this
point you should have a clear run at the back two defenders,
and a great scoring chance.

METHOD 2 - Route One
This method only applies to corners which are played into the
penalty area. Please note that this method can be a bit risky
so don't go trying it against Brazil in the World Cup Final.

1.) As the corner is floated in, ignore
the defender the nearest to the corner (boxed) and let
the ball float in towards the defender infront of the
goal (circled)
|
Hopefully (remember it's a bit risky)
the ball should fall at his feet, at which point you
should turn quickly and belt the ball upfield, curling
it back towards the centre of the pitch, and putting
some height on it. WIth a bit of luck either the midfielder
on the edge of the box, or your winger will race on
to the ball, from which point you can feed your strikers
and run at the last two defenders.
