Changing SWOS Sounds & Music

Changing Commentary / Crowd chants:-
The sounds used by Sensible Soccer can be found in the swos\hard directory. Most of the sounds found there are commentary files, but the following are all crowd chants :
Cheer.raw
Easy.raw
Erewego.raw
Fivenil.raw
Fournil.raw
Notsing.raw
Threenil.raw
Fournil.raw
In order to listen to or edit these files, you'll need a decent sound editing program. I can strongly reccommend Goldwave which you will be able to find on the internet, by searching for it on the top search engines.
Once you have this program, you are ready to create your own SWOS sounds, or edit existing sounds so that they can be used by SWOS. When editing sounds remember that SWOS uses the following sound preferences :
Sample rate : 22,500hz
Quality : 8 bit Mono
Simply save your sound files, with the same name of the SWOS sound file which you wish to replace. Easy really. You can change all of the sound files on SWOS - you can change all od the commentary files if you so desire, but you may find yourself disappointed in this area, because most of the commentary still comes off the CD.
Changing Menu Music
(Many thanks go to PAUL JACKSON, of SENSI ONLINE ( http://www.cpjackson.freeserve.co.uk for giving me this information, and allowing me to use it on my site - please give Sensi Online a visit to show your appreciation for his generosity)
I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets a bit irritated at the drony background menu music in SWOS, so now I'm pleased to be able to help you all out by telling you how you can change it, to any of your favourite tunes or songs. And the process is so simple, you'll be able to keep it updated with the latest chart or dance hits.
There are a few files, and small programs which you will need for the job which you DOWNLOAD HERE or in the downloads section. You will also need to find the "MIDI" file for your favourite song. This couldn't be simpler. If you go to any decent search engines and type in the name of the song your looking for, and type in midi at the end (eg - Bohemian Rhapsody midi), you're almost certain to find the file you want. Alternatively you could type in something like "Chart Midis", "Rock Midis", "Oasis midis" or basically anything you fancy - there's loads of sites out there with millions of different midi files to cater for all kinds of music tastes.
Anyway, I'm getting off the point here, so here's an easy to follow guide to converting your midis so that they can be used in SWOS.
1.) Find your midi file!
2.) Download the files needed for conversion (Click HERE or go to DOWNLOADS section), and unzip the files into the same directory as the one your midi file is in. You will have the following files :
hospmidi.bat
midiform.exe
midi.bak
midi.tmp
midi.txt
readme.txt (incase you get stuck!)
3.) Download a MIDI editing/composing package ( just type in "midi editers" in a search engine, and you'll find loads. Alternatively go to http://www.softseek.com where you'll find one no problem)
4.) Open up your midi file in your editing/authoring package.
5.) Increase the TEMPO of the midi by 100 (because SWOS plays the midi back at a slower rate)
6.) Save your sped up MIDI file.
7.) Open up an MS-DOS prompt window.
8.) Go to the directory of your midi, and conversion files.
9.) Type in "hospmidi" followed by the name of the midi file which you want to convert (without the .mid extension)
e.g - hospmidi bohemianrhapsody
10.) The program will run, and hopefully convert your file, however be warned because it doesn't always work with all midis - you may have to try a few different sites to find a midi of your song, that will be compatable.
11.) The program will produce a new file with an ".xmi" extension (eg - bohemian.xmi)This is the file you need for SWOS. Simply re-name this file "Menu" and copy it into the main SWOS directory, overwriting the original file.
12.) Boot up SWOS, and bop along to your new music!!!
