OR WILL THERE? - SENSIBLE IN BIG TROUBLE
It seems that I may have been jumping the gun a bit when I claimed
there would be another Sensible Soccer this year. Although I
still believe that there will be another Sensible Soccer, i
doubt that it will be this year.
It seems as though Sensible Software are in BIG financial trouble.
They have no offices, staff, or investors, although Jon Hare
is looking.
'There are still plans at the moment to keep Sensible alive
in a slightly different guise and this could well mean some
sequels of old titles plus some new titles coming out over a
period of time.'
A new Sensible Soccer this year seems pretty unlikely though.
Just incase Jon Hare is thinking of chucking it all in, go NOW
and read the Save Our Sensible page and then leave a message of support
on the bulletin board
EXCLUSIVE!!!THERE WILL BE ANOTHER SENSI!!
I can exclusively reveal that there WILL be another Sensible
Soccer, and it will be called Sensible Soccer '99 Management
Edition. The game is advertised on one of the advertising boards
on Sensible Soccer '98 European Club Edition. What more proof
do you want?
CONTINUED SUPPORT FROM PC ZONE
PC Zone has continued it's support to the Sensible Soccer series,
and in particular, Sensible Soccer '98 European Club Edition,
by awarding it the accolade of being the second best football
game of all time in a football game supertest , behind you know
what. Check out the re-review and the Supertest article in the
club edition menu.
ON THE OTHER HAND...
Whilst the playstation mags tear Sensible Soccer European Edition
to shreds, PC owners are showering it in glory. Readers of Ultimate
PC magazine (who gave Sensi Euro 91%) have voted it the 47th
best game in history, making it the second highest footy game,
with Fifa 99 a mere 15 places higher. Jon Hare and co's latest
creation has beaten the likes of Actua Soccer 2/3 aswell as
several other older football games.
Voters at this site have also given the new Sensi a vote of
confidence with 100% of the people who voted claiming that they
wanted to see another Sensi.
NO CONSOLE-ATION
Sensible Software's second attempt to conquer the console market
looks to have ended in disaster. After the nightmare of Megadrive
SWOS, Sensi must surely have hoped they could make a better
go of things this time around. However it seems that Krisalis
have made a mess of converting the highly acclaimed PC Sensi
98 Euro Club Edition to the Playstation, as the game is getting
a complete battering by every Playstation mag around.
So far it has received 20% in Extreme Playstation Magazine,
2/5 stars in The Official UK Playsation Magazine, and 53% in
Playstation Zone. All of the reviews have pointed out chronic
problems in the games engine which 'make passing impossible'
and 'shooting a lottery'
"It seems as though the people responsible for the conversion
had no idea of what Sensible Soccer was all about"
"So just forget that this has even been released and stick
with the footy games which you already have. Even Adidas Power
Soccer is better than this pile of ...." - Extreme
Playstation magazine.
PLAYSTATION SENSI 98 HANGS IN THE BALANCE
Sensi 98 is expected to arrive on the Playstation scene in February
of this year. However, it has been received a pretty cold reception
up until now. The official UK Playstation magazine described
it as an unpolished, flawed game, not really up to matching
the games that are around at the minute.
However, all is not lost, as the magazine also claimed that
they hoped Sensible Software could pull out a surprise, by polishing
the game off by February.
"Sensible Software had a habit of producing games which
were terrible in the developement stages, but miraculously turned
themselves into polished pieces of genious at the last possible
moment. But that was the old Sensible. Whether the Sensible
of present day can still pull it off remains to be seen."
HA, HA, HA, VIVA LA SENSI. FIFA - ROT
IN HELL
Regular visitors to the site will know just how much I hate
the FIFA series, and so when I heard that the latest in the
series, FIFA 99 received a pitiful 42% in a recent review, I
couldn't help laughing out loud. The review was on C4's teletext
page 'Digitiser' (from page 670 onwards), who incidentally also
gave Micheal Owens WLS 40 something percent. Here's a groovy
quote from the review : "It smacks of over greedy corporatism"
