XBox SWOS release day shambles...
Well, we waited, and we waited, and we waited.. and then, suddenly SWOS swiftlly and promptly appeared on Xbox Live Arcade this morning, only for it then to be swiftly and promptly pulled back off again due to a major bug in the Xbox live code.
Within hours of it's release, the Codemasters and Xbox live messageboards were bombarded with complaints that Xbox SWOS was booting people out of Xbox Live - making online play impossible, and by 10.30, SWOS was gone again... disgracefully pulled from the Xbox live servers.
Codemasters issued an immediate statement on their official forums stating they and Microsoft were both looking into it as a top priority.
Amid furious speculation and a mass descent of SWOS fans on Codies and Xbox forums, it was later stated in an official microsoft statement that "an incorrect version of Sensible World of Soccer was made available on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360®" and that they were "currently investigating the issue and will have a correctly functioning version of Sensible World of Soccer available soon. "
Information since then has been hard to come by, other than codemasters community advisers occasionally dropping by to say "yes, we're still working very hard on it".
With Codemasters, and Microsoft seemingly united with their silent treatment, the official forums went mad with fans speculating what had gone wrong, and when SWOS was going to reappear.
There still has been no official line on exactly what has gone wrong, and how long it is going to take to fix, so once again, us loyal, and long suffering SWOS fans are well and truly in the dark.
On the plus side, the reception for the game, from those who were lucky enough to download it before it disappeared, has been mostly positive, with people beaming that it is a fine conversion. Something, those of us lucky enough to play the game at the open day were already fairly confident of, but it's nice to know that in the months of tweaking since, they haven't messed anything up... well.. apart from the obvious.
"Tomslav", a regular to the codemasters forum, and one of the lucky ones who managed to download the game before it got pulled said tonight "We knew it wouldn't be as easy as download and play, one more twist of "fun"...... it'll be worth it though"
Anyway, lets hope this shambolic nightmare is all over soon so we can all get online and get playing!
