Parallax was the first game released under the name
of Sensible Software. Earlier Jon and co-programmer,
and friend Chris had worked together as part of LT Software
to produce 'Twister', but they then broke away to form Sensible
Software, and released Parallax - a multi scrolling shoot-em-up.
This was Sensible Software's big break,
as they secured a £1000 deal with publishers Ocean, and they celebrated
with champaigne and cigars on the train home!
I'm not surprised neither. This really is an excellent
game, that modern day producers can learn a lot from. Not only
can the user move around the screen in the normal horizontal and
vertical directions, the multi-layered aspect of the environment
allows the player to move up and down through the level and this
adds a whole new dimension to the game.
A wonderfully crafted, addictive, tough and playable
shoot-em-up.
