    Microprose Soccer

    Game genre : Football

    Publisher : Microprose

    Released : 1988

    Platform : C64

No of players - 2 player

Sensible Softwares first venture into the world of football was highly successful and this game was widely regarded as the best football game available for the Commodore 64, and was also rewarded with several awards and accolades.

The game allows you to play through a whole world cup, as well as playing one or two player friendlys and leagues and the Microprose International Challenge - an option which was recently re-incarnated in Sensible Soccer 98.

There was also a 6-a-side spin off of the game, imaginatively titled 'Microprose Soccer 6-a-side' which offered the same options, but on an indoor court and with six men instead of 11.

The game is typical of Sensible Software, and years ahead if it's time. The action is fast and furious, and the attention to detail which Sensible Software is built on, is evident here, with nice little touches, including changing weather conditions, the option to play in black and white and the introduction of 'the banana shot'. It's a challenging, and highly playable game, that can still help you pass a few hours, even in todays high tech 3D polygon world.
